It is cloudy, but I doubt if this brings us rain. It tried to rain last night, but without much success.
I cooked breakfast again, same ole same ole. How many ways can you scramble an egg? I have bad kidney problems and have been told to reduce my salt intake, and man that sure kills the taste of things, but I do not want to go on dialyisis. I have a friend who has been on it for over fifteen years, he is blind, and they wonder what keeps him going. Welll, everyone have a good one. |

Doing without salt isn't easy but I've been doing it only cause of my high pressure. My mom poured salt on everything weather it needed it or not..
Vern, try Mrs Dash, it's salt free I use it on everything.. |

Good morning friends....
It's Thursday, rain has cooled things off... Vern, so many foods today have salt, and sodium in them. I don't use salt or pepper because foods have enough. Everyone is different, that's just me... To all a nice day.... With friends like you, I know I'm on Yuku.... |

Morning Friends,
Looks like a nice day here today.....but we've got rain that's supposed to move in this weekend. I'm not complaining one bit....we can use all the rain we can get. So if it's gonna rain, I'll just stay home. LOL! Not gonna complain. Oh my, yes they do! Many of our foods today has just way too much salt/sodium in it. That's why I try to buy the salt free stuff. And, to be honest, it tastes better. I do add my own salt when cooking, but it's not overwhelming like what these companies do. And Elle's right, that Mrs. Dash is really good. I use that on grilled chicken and chops. It really brings out the flavor in meats and veggies. And eating out at restaurants, forget it. Wow...they aren't supposed to salt their foods due to the public's varying health problems, but I've noticed that restaurants are using more and more salt these days. And fast food...ick! It's like licking a salt shaker. LOL! I think that KFC is the worst with salt. Well, I dunno....McDonald's is a close second, if not first. LOL! That's why we don't eat out much. Feeling a little better today. Yeah, I think it's the heat and being a little run down too. I just need a few days off to do absolutely nothing. LOL! Yeah, right....like that's gonna happen. Not too much on tap for today. Gotta run to the courthouse later this morning and pay the taxes on my car. Oh...joy. Has anyone else's property tax gone up? Ours have. OUCH! And yet...we still have potholes in our roads. Go figure. But of course, the taxes go up...and the value goes down. Nice, eh? Off to check the board......see if I can find some interesting news stories... |

Good morning everyone, It's 74 degrees and VERY humid out there but cool, if that makes sense.. We are supposed to get rain but I don't know. It was sprinkling earlier.. Maybe we'll get lucky today.. Nothing much going on today, just going to be a TV day.. KFC I think beats anyone hands down. Last time we got from there must have been last year, before mom got sick, we wanted pizza but they were closed so went for some chicken. I shouldn't be eating that stuff. That's a heart attack waiting to happen.. As far as McDonald's and Burger King, I don't remember the last time we ate there. I made the morning so please have some before
you leave. See you all later!
Wine, rest up, whatever has to be done, can be done tomorrow..

EVERYONE should use the Morton's Lite Salt, which is half salt and half potassium chloride and tastes EXACTLY the same as regular salt with half the sodium
and added potassium (which we all need). I have used it for cooking, canning and table use for 20 years now.
I took off early from work last night and went to the blackberry patch and picked a gallon or so and made REAL blackberry jelly - straight juice, no water or apple juice extender added. Great stuff - and my daughter's favorite. Since I can't have it, I will keep a jar for Suzanne and give Critter the rest. To bed at 12:30 in the morning, but SO worth it!! It felt like being ME again for a moment. I just love that kinda stuff..... |

You are so right, Elle. KFC used to be good...when the Colonel was alive and overseeing the operation. But these
days, since the big corporate bigwigs took over, it sucks. Sorry..but it does. Rarely we will have it...but it is a rare occasion. When we have fried
chicken, it's my homemade. Takes time to cook it right, but it's worth it in the end. LOL! As for the other fast food joints, we eat there
occasionally. Mostly the local fast food places that have been in operation for years....such as Harned's in Paducah. "Car hop" burger/bbq
place that has been in operation since the 1950's.
As for pizza, we really don't have a good pizza joint in the area. We have the usual Pizza Hut, Papa John's, Domino's, etc...but they are just as salty as KFC. So...we don't eat that much either. I try to make pizza at home, but it's not like those fired in the really hot ovens. LOL! |

HEY GREG!
It's always good to hear from you. Hey, I don't blame ya. Taking off early....don't hurt one bit. OOOOH!!!!!! Blackberry jam is my favorite. Seeds and all. I know, I'm weird. LOL! Jelly is good...but I just prefer the jam. That with some hot buttermilk biscuits of the morning...hey, keep the eggs and bacon...even the gravy...I'm happy with the biscuits and jam. No butter either. Just bread and jam. Period. It's no wonder I'm fat.
How is Suzanne doing these days? And I take it that "Critter" is your daughter? LOL! Sounds like the nickname we've recently given Jennifer.....we call her 'Piglet' now. She hates it. LOL!!!!!! How is she doing? I remember that you're supposed to be a Grandpa soon?! Ah, check your private messages here....sent ya one.... |

Ah blackberry Jam | #3371 | ||

When I was younger, and single, if there was a particular girl I liked, I would ask her to go pick blackberries with me. Half the fun was
trying to get up the hill. These were wild blackberries.
Warm blackberry cobbler emersed in milk, my favorite. Can't have it now, but the memory lingers on. Greg, good to hear you in here. Elle, that hurricane, has caused you to have all that humidity. Padre Island took a beating. I've been using Mrs. Dash, but i sure wish there weere somethng better. Greg, your suggestion sounds good. |

Yes, Critter is my daughter ... and 7 months preggers now! She is the ONLY reason I make the jelly since she loves blackberries but cannot abide the seeds. For
my own tastes, I make blackberry preserves, not jam. The difference is that you do not crush the fruit. In fact, I DOUBLE the fruit, cooking the allotted
amount with the pectin to the jell point and then stirring in another load of berries with the sugar. It makes a soft set, with each spoonful having 4-5 plump
whole berries floating in a cloud of soft, seedy jam.
Heaven on a biscuit!!! For others these days, but oh well. I still like to do it. |

Morning Friends,
LOL! Good pictures Elle....and I don't blame you. Rain is rare at times in Texas so pictures don't hurt. We're getting some rain this morning...thunderstorms. We can use it...so I'm not complaining. I've been trying to convince the cooler temps to float back your way...but they won't listen to me. Greg, don't you have some recipes for jams and jellies that you can eat? If not, I can try to find some on the internet. I know! Have you tried the Splenda web site? If they don't have any, look for an email address there and send them an email. But I would think that you could substitute in your own and make the jams/jellies where you can enjoy them too! Remember....where there's a will, there's a way. (That's what Grandma Skinner always said.)
Does Critters know what she having or did they opt for a surprise? Elle, I know you must be tired of the hot temps. We had them for about a week here and I was sick of it when the cooler temps finally came back. To be honest, we've had one weird summer here. We have had the coolest July that I can remember this year. Honest...it's weird. Usually, July is the HOTTEST month here with the humidity and the summer weather. But this year, we've had more cool days than hot. SO weird. Uh huh, Vern....now, tell us: When you took those girls blackberry picking, did you steal any kisses? LOL!!!!!!! Vern, try the different types of herb seasoning blends on the market now. Not those in the packets, those contain loads of salt. But those in the bottles. They have great blends now and a variety of tastes. Put some zest in your food. Morning ETA, Perry and Lil!!!! Wow...it's really coming down out there now.....thunder too. Anyway, got a few things on tap for this morning. Gotta get out later and pay some bills. Never ends, does it? Bills. Just when you think you got 'em all paid, the month changes and here you go again. Has anyone else's utility bills gone up.....again? Our electric company has raised the rates for us...again. This is twice this year. And get this: They CLAIM that it's because of the gas going up. How can that be when it's hydro-electric power??? I dunno. I guess they're charging us for the trucks???! Damn TVA. Also, got some laundry to do later today. And, since we've been talking about dumplings here, I'm gonna whip up some of Greg's dumplings for supper tonight. Just sounds good. And Piglet (Jennifer) has been wanting some chicken salad. Off to check the board....check in later... |

Yes, my electric bill has gone over $100.00 again, soon as I can shut the damn A/C it'll go down again. My gas bill was barely over $15.00 shows how much I
cook huh? Our trash bill is going up even the water bill is going up, it's getting so we won't be able to shower soon..
Hey Vern, When I do cook, I use the slow cooker alot, that's prob why my electric bill has gone up, I hear it uses lots of electric to run those things, but I use lots of onion and leek for taste. I hardly use anything else.. On average I think I use it maybe once or twice a week, rest of week is micro fast dinners. |

Wine, yes I stole a kiss or two. LOL. Give me some names so I can check at the grocery. I want to try the morton's lite salt too, and
yes, I am on a hunt for better taste.
Elle, I don't believe the cooker would use that much electricity. Here are some places to check; do you leave lights on when not in the room, fans, when not in the room, TV's draw electricity when plugged in, even if you are not watching TV,do you have an eledctric clock, such as on a stove, microwave etc.... These are some uses of eletricity. Elle, bottle that cool Texas air, and you could be a millionare. LOL |

Ok we have 3 TV's and most of the time spend time on just 1, my fans go constantly, they have to keep the air circulating, the lights are only on when
I'm cooking, we watch TV in the dark, and I'm also in the dark when online. I never type with the lights on..
No clock on the stove but my coffee pot has one as does the micro.. Bottle the cool air??? Soon as I find some.. LOL |

Wine, I tried the Splenda blackberry jam last year ... and WHAT a disappointment! It was hardly sweet at all, and the texture was strange at best. A waste of
good blackberries. I figure that I am better off without such things, or just making simple things (like the dumplings) myself ... just to taste, using Splenda
spoon for spoon in place of sugar.
Actually, I have very nearly lost my taste for sweets entirely. That is probably a good thing. And Critter is having a boy, and they have settled on the name Marshall. I like it! |

I don't think that crock pots use that much electricity. Microwaves do. But with all the constant hot weather you've had, I imagine it's the AC
that's costing. But you gotta have it! Hopefully, the weather will break there soon and you'll get some relief. My ceiling fans go constantly here
as well. Keeps the place cool.
Anyway, I posted a story in the Daily Blend earlier....it looks like everyone's utility bills will be going up. |
